Party Walls

The Party Wall Act 1996 is a law that gives you rights and responsibilities when you or your neighbour carry out building work.

A 'Party Wall' is not only the wall between two properties. It also covers things like floors and ceilings, walls on boundary lines and garden walls. Even excavations near your neighbour's property may fall within the remit of The Party wall Act.

Party Wall matters are often emotive, and particularly so where one party has objected to any original planning application. Notices have to be served within specific time periods and it is therefore prudent to seek professional advice from an experienced Chartered Surveyor as early as possible.

Failure to comply with The Act may result in an injunction being served or claims for damages.

MMA Surveyors have negotiated numerous Party Wall Agreements and whether you are a building owner planning works or are affected by works to a neighbouring property, MMA Surveyors can offer a comprehensive service.

Above all, the Party Wall Agreement is designed to offer peaceful co-existence between neighbour’s and avoid stressful and costly disputes at a later date.
